Coaches' Corner

"Coaches who can outline plays on a blackboard are a dime a dozen. The ones who win get inside their player and motivate."

HISTORY OF THE COURSE

Introduction to Athletic Coaching was first offered to students at Middletown High School beginning with the 2008-09 school year, and 64 students registered that year to take advantage of this unique learning opportunity.  There was a class offered each semester, with 33 students in the course in the fall and another 31 during the spring.

MHS had sponsored a Future Coaches Club for two years before the 2008-09 school year, and there were 94 members of the club in 2007-08.  Club members took field trips to Shepherd University and Mount Saint Mary's University to learn more about the coaching profession during those two years.  Many students at MHS expressed interest in taking a course in Introduction to Athletic Coaching, and we were excited about offering it to them.  The Frederick County Public School system takes great pride in providing a first-class education for all of its students, and this course will enable many of our students to enjoy a rewarding experience as they learn how to help others in an athletic environment.
